CASUAL WINTER OUTFIT WITH MUKLUKS

black mukluks outfit

I was on the hunt for winter boots for a while–especially after we got that cold snap early November.  I’m talking, -20C temperatures and a 10 minute walk one-way from my car into work–ugh.  Something warm and comfortable was needed.

I scoured the Internets and was coming up empty handed.  “Just get something that’s kind of ugly,” said my sweet but clueless husband.  I scoffed at the idea.  I told him, very matter of fact-ly that if I was walking into an office building in snow boots, they better be somewhat okay to look at even if that did require pairing them with my snowpants at times.

Enter Mukluks.

Okay, let me preface with a few fast facts:

First, I’ve never been much of a Mukluks fan.  Yes, I’ve seen them before a lot, and know they are expensive but they didn’t really feel me.  However, I needed something tall for warmth and in case I have to walk through a snowbank.  I was starting to wear my Isabel Marant’s frequently, but they flop a little when I walk and aren’t great for distance, plus the slush was going to quickly ruin them.  I also still wear these little F21 Marant dupes but again, they aren’t exactly a boot for warmth.  And lastly, there are Uggs, and I still love mine but wanted something higher and just… not Uggs.

Fast fact number two, I got together with my most stylish friend last month and she was wearing a pair of Mukluks (in grey), looking her ever stylish self.  Um, whaaat?  I spent the rest of the evening drilling her with questions about the boots and having her convince me I needed a pair.  By midnight, it was a done deal (free shipping & free returns!  Nothing to lose 😉 )

When they arrived in the mail, they were so cozy, comfortable and warm.  Still, I was wary on the shape and just the look of them in general but when my girlfriend suggested they look great with skirts, tights and a parka, I could finally envision it!  I wore a skirt to work the next day, with my new boots, and killed that 10 minute walk.  I was sold.  (I mean, good thing because at that point I had worn them outside, so…).

All that to say, now I’m totally loving them and completely converted.  They are super warm and look really cute, easy to slip on and off and very comfortable.  You have to get the ‘Snowy Owl’ ones though, they are the only waterproof ones, which is so crucial.  Sizing is pretty true to size, but my mom went down a size in hers.  I do find the interior fur/shearling gets crushed a little so they “stretch out” a bit over time, but I’m still pleased I went with my usual size (10).  I’ve worn them on weekends and into work many times with dress pants, tights/skirts, leather pants, and jeans.  Also, if you’re going to splurge on a pair, try using coupon code SURVEY25 for 25% off here.
