DRESSING DOWN A WOOL COAT

I la la la love the look when girls rock an oversized wool coat with sneakers, but since it’s still winter AF here, ankle snow boots it is!

This is a super simple style to pull off, that looks way chic but is actually quite effortless.  Grab some easy leather pants and a longer top, or even a pair of skinny jeans, throw a cool coat over your shoulders & you’re all set in comfort and style.

O U T F I T  D E T A I L S  :  VINTAGE WOOL COAT (SIMILARSIMILAR)  |  FUR POM HAT  |  FREE PEOPLE TOP (THIS YEAR’S STYLE)  |  FAUX LEATHER LEGGINGSMY FAVE! (SIMILAR) |  ISABEL MARANT BOOTS (SIMILAR, BUDGET FRIENDLY)  |  BAG (BUDGET FRIENDLY)

I think the thing that really makes this outfit for me, though, is the hat.  Rocking a pom hat or a slouchy beanie with a more proper wool coat is still unexpected, yet pairs so well together.  I’ve been getting tons of use out of this hat this year, and if I’m not wearing it, I’m often tossing it in my bag on my way to work in case it’s snowing afterwards or my hair has fallen flat and I just want to hide that.  I did buy an inexpensive one off of Amazon this year, but I never seem to reach for it, which again brings me to the cost-per-wear method.  I’m not always one to splurge (trust when I say I love a good sale), but I do find I tend to wear the pieces I spend a bit more on, more frequently.

How is your week going?  Things are good around here but work has been whopping my butt.  I’m exhausted and starving by the end of the day and forfeiting the gym in favour of rushing home to make dinner and curl up with a glass of wine.  Womp.  I will say that having the sun set later now is giving me life at the end of the day.  Instead of leaving in the dark to head home, it’s still bright and it’s so refreshing.  A sign of what’s to come–and I can’t wait!

Sidenote: Shopbop just dropped a major 5-day sale–ahhhhhh!  I actually told myself last week that when they had their next sale I would treat myself to these jeans.  I have three pairs of black waxed pants and two are so worn they are looking faded, and the other were never that nice to begin with.  I wear them all the time for work with pretty tops and heels, so I kind of feel like when that’s the case (ahem, cost-per-wear), it’s easier to splurge.  I’m also on the hunt for a new pair of white non-distressed skinnies (my Paige ones are so done) that I can wear for work and weeks and these look quite nice.  Totally into the higher waist styles these days, which are great for any tops that run a little shorter in the body; plus less sliding off my hips too, a win win!

I’ll be back later with all my picks from the sale!
