We are four days away from Christmas and I could not be more excited! I still have a ton of wrapping to do, but am definitely on my way to getting things done and ready to start the celebrations that will be happening on Saturday.
For us, comfort is key on Christmas morning, and while we won’t be opening gifts in our home this year, lounging by the tree in something cozy is still something I’ve checked off my list.
I have so never been the girl to do matching wrapping, and I have always used a lot of gift bags in the past #easy, but even before we decided on re-doing our tree in a colour-coordinated way, I knew this year I wanted the wrapping to look chic.
I purchased four new rolls from Home Sense (all the ones you see above), and hadn’t wrapped anything when we decided on our tree theme: black, gold & silver. Turns out the wrapping paper I purchased ironically fit the colour scheme! It wasn’t planned, but I’m sure glad I didn’t have to run out and switch up the paper #realtalk
Honestly, if you’re planning to do a styled tree, adding colour coordinating wrapped gifts underneath is a great way to pull everything together. It’s not imperative, but it sure looks pretty!
Speaking of wrapping paper, I came up with idea a whim to just throw the rolls and a couple pillows into this gold basket I use elsewhere in the house during the year. Sitting it beside the tree looks festive and pretty, plus it fills in some of gaps and makes the base of the tree look more full.
As far as the ornaments go, I was really happy we were able to use many of the ornaments we already had on our colourful trees in the past. I guess I’ve taken a liking to metallic ones over the use, which came in super handy this year. While we did purchase many many matching or same-ornaments, I love that the ornaments we already had are unique and add more character to the tree than just all-same ones.
O U T F I T D E T A I L S : OVER SIZED CARDIGAN (ALSO HERE IN OTHER COLOURS) | THERMAL ROMPER/ONESIE — ON SALE UNDER $18! | H&M OVER THE KNEE SOCKS — OLD (SIMILAR, SIMILAR) | INDIGO MUG (SIMILAR)
When I saw this adorable, shorts onesie, I knew it would be perfect for this little Christmas setting I had in mind. The shorts are definitely on the tiny side, but the fact that it has long sleeves is awesome. You could even pair this under a pair of pajama pants or even jeans if you wanted a casual, henley look. The deep burgundy is such a great colour on us fair skinned girls, but I equally love the charcoal grey.
And, the second this cardigan came in the mail, it was on me for the rest of the day. It’s so cozy and warm. It definitely runs big, and I usually size down in Free People but I went with the M/L in this one. I find if you wear something a little more body-skimming or snug underneath, it’s more flattering than another over sized pieces. The quality of the knit is just gorgeous and I even wore it to work one day for casual Friday with dark denim skinnies & a white scoop neck tank.
Tonight is my annual gift exchange with my bestie, we do it every year and I used to document it on the blog (here, here & here). We started a tradition about five years ago where we get together right before Christmas, have some drinks, exchange gifts and just spend an evening together. Always such a great time, so I’m really looking forward to that tonight!
Hope you girls are getting your xmas shopping done and the stress levels aren’t too high–tis the season, trust me, I know all that that, haha. But overall, excited because it’s all worth it for the memories and time with family and friends. xo
