8 THINGS I BOUGHT AT ZARA + TRY ON

I shared on Instastories last week that I had done some damage at Zara and my package had finally come in the mail.  Although not everything was a fit and will be going back, I wanted to share what I did pick up because I wish it all worked out, so it may for you.

We’ve got a good mix of tops, bottoms, shoes + a dress, plus I’m sharing a full try-on on Instastories today (saving to my highlights) so you can see how each piece moves, looks on in a video, etc.  Let’s jump in!

VELVET SEQUIN DRESS  | CLEAR STRAP HEELS

Haha–note the two different shoes in the first pic?  I was trying to decide which I preferred and it’s definitely the rose gold ones that I actually wore for our wedding (they are from Asos, but sadly long sold out).

Back to the dress.  I bought this velvet sequin number for a wedding we have coming up this month, in a size large.  The fit was fine as far as sizing goes, but it wasn’t the most flattering fit.  It just didn’t do much for me, if you know what I mean, which was disappointing because I really loved the velvet-sequins combo and the batwing sleeve.  Marco wasn’t a fan at all, so that was the further nail in the coffin to return it.

Verdict:  Return

LEOPARD PANTS

I love these leopard pants!  I had been eyeing them in the store for a month or more and finally tried them on in my usual size (large), and was swimming in them.  They didn’t have a medium so I ordered it online and these are them.

The medium is definitely very snug, but seem to work (I also tend to worry about my dress pants stretching out over the course of a day).  The fabric is a dress pant material, and I love that there is a slight flare at the bottoms.  They are a mid-rise and have slit pockets in the front that are sewn shut.

Verdict:  Keep

CLEAR STRAP HEELS

I wanted to love these heels, the clear strap is so cool and elongates the foot and leg.  That said, the ankle strap cut me off at a weird part of my ankle and wasn’t the most flattering.  I’ve been many girls wear this ankle strap ‘height’ and look great, but it never seems to work on me (with booties as well).

Additionally, even if I was willing to disregard the above, there is zero grip on the bottom of the shoes–just walking around the house was pretty slippery.

Verdict:  Return

LACE TOP  |  RIBBED KNIT SKIRT

This lace top is so pretty–the colour is gorgeous and it’s got a scalloped hem.  I love lace and have a white lace top that’s similar and I wear it all the time (especially for work with a white chiffon cami underneath).  I bought this in store after trying it on and went with a large.  I probably could have gone with the medium, if I wanted a slimmer fit, but am used to grabbing a large at Zara.  Once I got it home, I decided the crew neck was a little too tight on me and not as flattering as a boatneck (like my current one).

Verdict:  Return

This ribbed midi skirt is all sorts of amazing!  I was stalking it online and it went out of stock twice before I finally nabbed it.  I even size down and took a chance ordering a small because it was all they had left, but it’s actually a great fit.  Since it’s ribbed, there is a lot of give/stretch, and the waistband is sewn folded down and so flattering on the hips.  This is definitely a body con skirt, it doesn’t suck or smooth, but it’s a thick material and very comfortable.  I’ll have a full outfit post coming soon with it 😉

Verdict:  Keep

PLEATED TUNIC  |  POINTED ANKLE BOOTS

This tunic tho!  I was eyeing this one in store for a couple months but they didn’t have my size (medium; seems it’s made on the bigger side).  I kept checking online and no luck, although they had the black and white available.  I was set on the Burgundy, and by chance ended up finding it in store the other night!  I snatched it up and love the look paired with leather leggings.

Verdict:  Keep

I really wanted to love these pointed toe, block heel, mid-ankle booties–especially because they are only $59!  They are not real leather, but they are quite comfortable and the heel is patent and has a very cool angular look to it.  When I put them on though, I felt like I was wearing boots that were two sizes too big!  The toe bed is very long, and although I had ordered my correct size (41), they just looked kind of silly.  Unfortunately I can’t get past it, and the photos don’t even look that bad, but in person they looked kind of silly.

Verdict:  Return

TEDDY COAT

The best for last!  I’m so so so excited about this teddy coat–I finally found one!  This has been a long hunt for the right fit, colour and fabric and I’m so happy to get this one (which Marco has dubbed my Christmas gift but didn’t make me hold off on wearing 😉 ).

This coat is definitely oversized, which is the look with teddy coats in general.  It comes in two sizes, and I went with the bigger one as the sleeves were a little longer and more room in the shoulders.  I swapped out my jacket last night when we went to dinner to wear this instead after picking it up at the mall–love!

Verdict:  Keep (obviously!)

Hope you girls enjoyed this type of post & are having a wonderful weekend.  See you tomorrow for the Weekend Snaps!
