BASIC FALL OUTFIT

It doesn’t get more basic than this, or easy for that matter!  With fall upon us, I know it can be overwhelming to figure out exactly what to buy and where to draw the line.  We all have our budgets, and I know this year I’ve had to be extra diligent about sticking within it with our new house.  I will be putting together a post on my top essential items for fall in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for that (just waiting on a couple pieces to arrive in the mail).

That said, you can never go wrong with skinny jeans, over the knee boots and an oversized sweater.  This pairing looks way more pulled together than you tried, is comfortable and easy to wear.  If you don’t have a pair of over the knee boots in your closet, I would highly suggest a black pair, but tan would be a close second–it really depends what colours your wardrobe is made up of.  Since I’m mostly neutrals, black works well, but a tan pair really pops–either would be a great addition to any closet.

In keeping with true cool weather, I’m super pale, I know.  I ran out of my self tanner before we shot this outfit and just went with it.

I find since I’m so fair to begin with, I get dark with the self-tanner, but not as dark as someone who would tan well in general, so keep that in mind.  However, I do find the camera tends to wash me out because in these photos I’m rocking a serious self-tan and in person I looked way darker than I did in the photos.

This is my favourite tanner, but I recently gave this one a shot and like it equally as much.  They are both paraben-free (and not all of their products are), which is important to me, and come in a mousse format (love that).

O U T F I T  D E T A I L S  :  SWEATER (ALSO IN DARK GREY)  |  MEDIUM-WASH SKINNY JEANS  |  ALDO OVER THE KNEE BOOTS — OLD (SIMILAR, LOVE THESE)  |  ZARA CLUTCH — OLD (SIMILAR)  |  SUNGLASSES

Back to the outfit, oversized sweaters are essentially everywhere now, and so easy to find at all price points.  Mine is actually from last year, and they brought it back again this year and now it also comes in a dark grey & blush pink too.  Look for details like a hi-low hemline or extra long sleeves to set it apart from the rest.  And finally, if the sweater is massively oversized, I would suggest doing a front tuck to give yourself some shape–this can be done right over the button of your jeans, or off to one side to add some interest.
