RIVIERA MAYA VACATION PHOTOS | PLATINUM PRINCESS YUCATAN

We are back from our week in Mexico and had a really great time.  We stayed at the Platinum Princess Yucatan resort in the Mayan Riviera, which is an adults only spot, connected to a larger resort for families.  We arrived in the late afternoon on Saturday, dropped our bags and headed for the buffet, naturally.  The rest of the week was spent sleeping in, lounging on the beach, endless amounts of nachos and more.

I have a major photo overload for you girls, if you’d like to see, then I’ll do a more in depth recap at the bottom.  Let’s jump in…

We had a truly great week away, and it was so nice to stay on the resort and recharge our batteries.  The resort itself is very nice; our room was a great size, had a large balcony (love that) and beautiful bathroom.  There were four restaurants + the buffet and a beach bar/grill, and the food tasted differently in each spot.  There are two pools–one being a larger, party pool and the other a slightly smaller, more quiet pool.  We are usually pool people, but the beach at this resort was really quite nice and we ended up spending our afternoons there.

Our daily routine when we travel down south is typically to sleep in, grab some form of breakfast, get a workout in, and then lounge by the pool or beach for the afternoon–with plenty of margaritas in between!  I know a lot of people don’t understand why working out is part of the routine, and I touched on it briefly on Instagram.  It’s not because I’m some hard core workout person–trust me, I struggle to make it to the gym regularly, despite generally enjoying it.  I do however, suffer from anxiety at times, and on vacation when I’m supposed to be relaxing, it tends to hit me the hardest.  Working out helps me relieve some of that anxiety–even if it’s just for the hour that I’m in the gym–plus creates a mini routine for the week.  I definitely enjoy a good routine, which makes this a great way to kick off the day.  Additionally, hanging out in a bikini all day long and indulging in all those cocktails encourages me to get there too 😉

A couple of things to note that weren’t our fave were the wait times for dinner–we weren’t allowed to make reservations until 6pm when the restaurants opened.  Often at that time we were back in our room, and you had to be in person for reservations.  Even when we arrived at 9pm for dinner a couple nights and the restaurants weren’t busy at all, they told us it would be a 30 minute wait.  I’m talking no one else in line and a half full restaurant.  I guess they might have ben short staffed?  Not too sure but if you didn’t have a reservation and you went between 7pm – 8pm, there were huge line ups to get into the restaurants (and again, they were only half full).

Like I mentioned at the beginning of the post, the resort is connected (by roads and beach) to the family-friendly resort next door.  We wandered over one day and it was huge.  There were multiple huge pools, a lazy river-style pool that ran through the swim-up room pools, a live band in the middle of the day, a food ‘truck’ and more.  There were tons of people, it was loud and a total kid-friendly party spot.  I would totally suggest this side if you’re looking to go with friends and you have kids.

Alternatively, our side was relatively quiet, aside from the party pool which had live entertainment, a foam party twice a week, various water sports and classes, and more.  Our resort, while smaller than next door, was still quite large and since we were at the back of the resort, the walk to get to all the restaurants and to the beach was pretty far–so something to consider, especially for dinner footwear 😉

Lastly, as I said, the beach here is really nice, lots of tiki umbrellas, loungers and quick and easy access to the awesome beach bar and grill.  They do full service drinks on the beach and have volleyball everyday, plus the bathrooms were very clean and well maintained.  That said, the beach is not very deep, and while we never had a problem finding loungers in the afternoon, I’m not sure about the morning.  The water was a little rocky near the shore, but quite nice out a bit further–lots of people were in the water enjoying themselves etc.

Ultimately, we had a really great week, we did both agree that we loved our trip to Breathless Cancun last year more, and would head back there in a heartbeat.

Hope you girls enjoyed this little trip recap, and thanks for following along on IG while we were there, it was fun chatting!
