OUR EASTER WEEKEND

Hello & Happy Easter Monday!

We had a really nice weekend around here, pretty low key but a few nice moments to share in photos, if you’d like to see…

On Friday a few items I had ordered for Hendrix arrived (shared everything here) and they are so cute! I ordered a few things for this summer and a few things in bigger sizes for next summer. Can’t wait to see him especially in these camo shorts (which I purchased in two sizes; under $10!).

That night, Marco BBQ’ed some steaks for us and we started this series on Netflix.

A day to note–my first workout since giving birth! You guys, whoa!

I’m not posting this to make anyone feel bad if you’re not working out on Quarantine, I haven’t worked out in like, a year–which is a far cry from how life was before I got pregnant. I was so sick, nauseous and exhausted my entire pregnancy, working out just wasn’t in the cards for me. Before getting pregnant, I lifted weights at the gym 3 – 4 times a week, but my pregnancy threw me for a total loop (talked about that in depth here)–and I just had to accept it.

We are coming up on a month in isolation (and the gym is obviously closed) so Marco started to build a mini gym in our basement. He’s using it everyday (which is his normal in the gym usually), and this weekend, the ‘stars aligned’ with the baby’s nap time, my own personal energy, and his workout, so I ran downstairs and joined him. It felt so good to be back! I’ve lost a lot of strength and muscle, so my weight was way lower than before, but at the same time, it was a proud moment to be pushing myself again after all this time.

On the flip side, I’m so glad I took three months after giving birth to just lay in, rest and recover. My doctor gave me the OK to workout at my 7 week check up, but I was no where near being ready. Just climbing stairs, getting up off the floor and more was challenging for me. I started walking the neighbourhood around 6 weeks, I think. Just once or twice a week, not too far, then more and more as time passed on days I had the energy to actually leave the house. I started out at a slow pace, and as the weeks went by, I was able to gradually build some more speed, but trust me, it’s been a slow process to even feel ready to lift a weight. I also haven’t been putting any pressure on myself to return to my previous shape or lose the baby weight. Sure, I look different in the mirror, but I am also slowly losing it and also just trying to enjoy (and survive) this newborn phase. I’m still up in the night with Hendrix, but getting longer stretches. In the beginning, there would have been no way I could function on such little sleep to get myself ready, let alone exert the energy to workout! So. Here we are, with a three month old and one workout down 😉

Then of course the most important part of the workout: breakfast afterwards. Woot!

On Easter Sunday, we took a little drive out to my parent’s place to pick up a full turkey dinner they prepared for us off their porch! Went home, heated it up and enjoyed our first Easter as a family of three. Definitely a bummer to not be together on Easter, but so thankful to have such a feast!

Hope you girls had a good weekend and are staying home and safe (if you are not a front line/essential worker–and if you are, thank you!!). We are just hanging out and making the most of what we can while inside. See you soon xo
