HOW TO LOOK STYLISH DURING A HEAT WAVE

It’s still summer around these parts and while I did share some fall inspired looks, I’m not done with summer just yet.  I’ll be sharing several more looks that you can wear until the cooler temperatures hit because, listen, I’m not actually trying to rush into winter, if you feel me.

This year, our summer has been rainy and quite cool, unfortunately we haven’t had many scorcher days, but on the day I wore this outfit, it was sweltering.  Usually on days like that, we tend to stay indoors where the AC is pumping to keep cool, but if you are venturing out, todays’ post is about keeping cool with your clothes during a heat wave.

I can totally appreciate balancing out proportions, covering up on top if you’re showing a lot of leg, or vice versa, but when the thermostat hits above 85 degrees Farenheit / 30 degrees Celcius, it’s more so about not sweating through your clothes and just keeping cool.

Looking chic when it’s that hot is definitely a task, and sometimes you think, ‘Ugh, I just want to wear whatever and go!’, but when the occasion calls for something a little more then a denim shorts/tee combo, try sticking to these four easy steps:

(1) LOOSE, FLOWY FABRICS

Not only do loose, flowing fabrics look chic, they’ll keep you cool as well.  Instead of a basic tank, try a chiffon cami or a something flows with a print.  For the bottoms, dressy shorts feel chic-er than a mini skirt, even when the hem is shorter.  Shorts with ruffles or paperbag waist are very on trend and stand apart from the rest.

(2) DARK COLOURS

Obviously I’m not fully abiding by this one today, but dark clothing is going to camouflage the off-chance you start sweating through.  I’m totally a sweaty person, real talk, so minimizing that by wearing something dark is a saving grace.

(3) MINIMAL JEWELRY, BUT STILL WEAR SOMETHING

Leave the statement jewellery for another day.  When the mercury soars, sometimes accessorizing is the last thing on the mind, but throwing on a few delicate pieces, layering necklaces, a dangly earring (love these) or easy bangles elevates a basic look to stylish.

(4) TRY A PAIR OF FLATS

Like any hot day, the less clothes, the better, but that doesn’t mean going overboard.  If you’re showing a lot of leg and arm at the same time, balance it out with a pair of chic flats or a pretty lace-up sandal (just bought these).  This tones the look down the look overall and feels more daytime-ready.
