Last night I hit up Nordstrom’s Half Yearly Sale and when I polled on Instastories if I should do a try-on blog post, it was a resounding yes with 96%! So, here we are.
I will preface this with my store (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) didn’t have the biggest selection–which was disappointing at first glance. That said, I still took a bunch of items into the fitting room with me and actually ended up having way more luck than expected. Obviously the selection online is much more extensive, but if you’re Canada, it’s typically better to shop in store–so, pick your battle 😉
I’m not sure if you girls find it helpful when I include sizing, but in case you do, I will share it below. My measurements are around a size 8 – 10 in dresses, a 30 in pants, and a medium – large in tops. I’m 5’11.
Let’s jump in!
I tried this dress on in red a couple months back and loved it, but didn’t pull the trigger only because it’s a tad on the short side, making it only a weekend dress for me. However, the fit is incredible and I love how you can adjust it to be snugger or looser with the wrap (which isn’t fully functional, there is a solid skirt underneath, but you can still cinch the waist). I’m wearing a medium.
I loved this cute tee way more than expected! The cropped wrap top has long wrapping panels that you can either tie at the front or back, but will wrap around twice if you don’t want to leave it hanging. They are two separate pieces and look great together or apart. Unfortunately I couldn’t find this on the Nordstrom site but did find it on sale here. I’m wearing a large and it was slightly roomy but my preferred size.
These jeans are so good!! I’m such a designer jean snob now when it comes to jeans. I used to always buy budget friendly jeans, but have found the investment in something I will wear for years (read: not too trendy), have served me well. That said, I had never tried this brand of jeans before but as soon as I was sliding them on, I was loving them! I went with my usual size 30 but feel I probably could have gone down a size. They feel very similar to Zara stretch jeans (like these ones I have), which are super comfortable. The wash is really nice, and so is the distressing, and the butt was flattering. I also feel like it was flattering on the inner thighs and kind of sucked them in (if that makes sense).
Okay, I’m so not a matching set person when it comes to being flattering on me (la-la-la love them on others), but the second I pulled this on I was convinced I could pull it off. Essentially, crop tops aren’t the best on my shape, but this top has long wrapping ties and the body of the top is slightly longer. If you tie the wraps below the bottom of the top, it creates almost a makeshift jumpsuit.
Regardless, this set is super comfortable and has really nice stretch to it, yet is still thick material that smooths you out a little. I’m wearing a large in the top and medium in the pants.
Also, it should be noted that you wouldn’t be able to wear a bra with this crop top as it’s an open back.
This top is really pretty and flattering, just not with these jeans. I wouldn’t typically wear this outfit, because it’s too tight across my stomach and the mid-rise jeans, but I had envisioned it looking fantastic with a high waisted skirt. Comes in a few different colours and I’m wearing a medium.
Oh. Em. Gee.
I had seen this about a month ago when I was at Nordstrom and was totally drooling over it but didn’t bother trying it on because it was expensive and I knew I didn’t need it. Fast forward to last night and I see it on the sale rack! I brought it into the fitting room and was shocked when the medium fit so perfectly. Love love love. It’s so rare for me to find dresses that fit plus not have to size up to a large.
When I sent those pics to Marco I got the heart-eyed emojis; man approved!
I saw this tee and thought it might be cute to try on with various items in the fitting room, but I didn’t think I would end up loving it so much! The flutter sleeves are cute and add something to an otherwise boxy tee. The fabric is soft and it’s just the right length for tucking. I’m wearing a size XL for an oversized fit.
These white skinnies are totally budget friendly and felt really comfortable on. They are thick and not see through and have a ton of stretch to them. While I really liked them, I’m on the hunt for a more higher waisted white skinny, so I passed on these. I’m wearing a size 31.
I brought this blouse in to try just for fun, but it ended up being really pretty. This isn’t a colour I usually go for, but it was pretty. I liked the exaggerated bell sleeves and the fact that the top part is wide enough you can wear a normal bra. Yet another item I couldn’t find on the Nordstrom site but I did find it on sale here in baby blue. I’m wearing a size medium.
This white loose peplum tee was cute, great to throw on with anything and go (plus conceal a food baby 😉 ). I like that it comes in a few colours, but I liked the flutter sleeve top above more. I’m wearing a size small.
These shorts are okay, they didn’t have my size so I tried on the next size up in a 31 and they were too baggy. Meh.
I had seen this dress as well about a month ago and loved it even more than the red, until I tried them both on. This dress is gorgeous and so flattering, but I surprised myself by loving the red on more for comfort reasons. However, I am crazy about the skirt on this dress and the cut-out is so stunning. This is another item I couldn’t find on the Nordstrom website, but I did find it on sale here. I’m not wearing a bra and not sure I could fit one under this one, TBH. I’m wearing a size medium.
PSA: You can barely move your arms up when they are in the sleeves. This is definitely not a dancing dress, but you will look amazing just standing around lol.
These jeans definitely came in at my top 3 for this try on–they are soooo good. They are the Paige Verdugo but I can’t seem to find the exact ones on the Nordstrom website, nor anywhere else (what the heck?!). They have a bit of distressing and kind of a paint splatter to them. I so should have taken a picture of the tag because I cannot for the life of me remember the name beyond that.
The colour of the denim was so unique, and while Paige is a brand I own in a few pairs, they have always come in second or third place to other brands in my closet, however these jeans changed that for me! Love these so much, fit true to size, and are super flattering. I’m wearing a size 30.
Hope you girls enjoyed this post and/or found it helpful. The sale is running until this Sunday, June 3.
