9 OUTFITS TO RECREATE BEFORE SUMMER IS OVER

Happy Labour Day weekend!  What are your plans?

We don’t have too much going on this weekend, except having our friends for dinner Sunday evening.  I love that the rest of the weekend is open and careful to fill in the blanks.  I’ll definitely be getting some laundry done and vacuuming (still recovering from crab boil 2.0, lol), but will also sprinkle in some fun things like getting out of the house and seeing where the day takes us.

I’m super excited to share today’s post because I know so many of you are still in hot temps and truth be told, I’m not quite ready to give up all my summer gear.  Today’s post is about maximizing your summer wardrobe as we transition to fall and a few outfit ideas on where to start.

I know technically Labour Day weekend marks the end of summer, but we usually have a month still of warm weather and I wanted to take full advantage of that.  Plus, all those “rules” about not wearing certain things after Labour Day?  Throw them out the window along with your inhibitions and wear whatever you’d like.  Let’s jump in!

FREE PEOPLE TOP  |  NECKLACE  |  DENIM SHORTS  | LACE UP GLADIATOR SANDALS  |  BAG (BUDGET FRIENDLY)  |  SIMILAR HAT

This Free People top is possibly my favourite casual top in my entire closet, I have four of them!   I’m wearing last year’s version, but they came out with a slightly new version this year and I love it!  I’m debating if I really need another one, but these tops are so. good.  You can see me wearing last year’s version here in olive green, and the year before’s in ivory here and in black here.  This is the top I’m constantly reaching for on weekends to run errands, go watch a movie, head out for a date night and lounge around the house.

For the outfit, I love the mix of shorts with a long sleeve top–this is a casual look, and these gladiators are awesome because you can tie them up in different ways (eg. criss-crossing over the foot, or lacing them high on the legs).

TRANSITION TO NIGHT:

FREE PEOPLE TOP  |  ALMOST IDENTICAL NECKLACE  |  DENIM SHORTS   |  ALMOST IDENTICAL PEEP-TOE BOOTIES  |  BAG (BUDGET FRIENDLY)

To wear the same look at night, simply lose the hat, throw on a fancier lariat necklace & some peep-toe booties.  This elevates the look without being too fussy–perfect for drinks with the girls at a casual spot.

SCOOP NECK TEE  | ALMOST IDENTICAL NECKLACE  | GREY DENIM  |  FUR SLIDES — DIY (SIMILAR)  |  BAG (BUDGET FRIENDLY)

I’m constantly turning to my furry/feathery slides on the weekend–they are essentially athletic slides that are extra and just so fun.  Pair these with casual outfits to elevate your look, or even with your gym clothes to and from.  They are comfortable, practical (unless it’s raining) and a little out of the ordinary, at this point.

I made my slides as I couldn’t find a pair that I was in love with–everything was either too small when it came to sizing, or the fur wasn’t furry enough.  I was thinking about making and selling them, but not sure if it would be worth it.

JAMES PERSE TEE (BUDGET FRIENDLY)  |  ALMOST IDENTICAL BAR CHOKER NECKLACE  |  WRAP SKIRT  |  LACE UP GLADIATOR SANDALS  |  CELINE BAG (BUDGET FRIENDLY)

You girls saw this skirt in my most recent outfit post, and it’s such a great piece at a budget-friendly price point.  The wrap style and updated waist is really on trend and it’s easy to wear.

Ultimately pair your mini skirts with something with a high-neck to balance out the proportions.  My best/fave white tee is actually a scoop neck, so I’m wearing it backwards for this outfit and it works perfectly.  I removed the tag with a stitch ripper and voila, #shopyourcloset.

PEPLUM TOP  |  NECKLACE  |  BENCH DENIM SHORTS (SIMILAR)  | LACE UP GLADIATOR SANDALS  | BAG (BUDGET FRIENDLY)

Another shorts-tee-combo but I’ve been obsessed with this peplum top since receiving it (girls night out look coming soon!).  It’s a little oversized–read: hides the food baby–with a slightly longer sleeve.  Since it has a crew neck, I’ve been pairing with statement earrings but kept things more simple with this look for the weekend daytime.

RUFFLE SLEEVE TOP  | ALMOST IDENTICAL NECKLACE  |  ZARA PANTS (SIMILAR)

Okay, I had to include these pants because these are definitely a seasonal pant that I can’t see myself really wearing into fall, so the time is now to pull out your printed pants and get some wear out of them.

I wore these pants for our housewarming party and love how flowy they are.  For a style like this (or remember the similar striped pair I have?), you want to pair with a snug fitting top to balance out the volume on the pants.  Long sleeves would be great as well if it’s a little cooler, and when I wore this out after work to meet up with friends this week for dinner, I threw a leather jacket over my shoulders and it was the perfect addition.

ZARA SWEATER — OLD (ALMOST IDENTICAL)  |  NECKLACE  |  DISTRESSED DENIM SKIRT  | LACE UP GLADIATOR SANDALS  |  BAG (BUDGET FRIENDLY)

Bell sleeves for the win!

Sweaters and denim are the perfect combo, so why not swap out your jeans and throw on a distressed skirt.  This would be equally as cute with sneakers or a little booties.

JAMES PERSE DRESS (SIMILAR LONG SLEEVE)  |  SUEDE MOTO JACKET  | LACE UP GLADIATOR SANDALS

While I’m not typically a tight-dress girl, I have had this James Perse LBD in my closet for years (ahem, remember this post?) and it’s come in handy many a times.  Add that to the fact that these dresses are made so well, are double lined and feel amazing on, they are definitely worth the splurge.

If you’re looking for a simple, but chic look, the LBD is always a great staple–I threw on my fave suede moto jacket but again wanted to take advantage of warmer weather with the sandals.  This would also look great with booties if the temperatures dropped.

JAMES PERSE TEE — WORN BACKWARDS (BUDGET FRIENDLY)  | NECKLACE  |  GREY DENIM  | LACE UP GLADIATOR SANDALS  | BAG (BUDGET FRIENDLY)

I’ve been obsessed with these grey jeans since getting them back in July, so wanted to include them in this post.

Obviously this is a basic jeans and tee look again, but am making the most of my wearing sandals while I still can.  I think this is a perfect example of transitioning your summer wardrobe to fall by pairing gladiators with denim.  It looks seasonally appropriate and will likely work well temperature-wise.

LE CHATEAU SWEATER — OLD (SIMILAR, SIMILAR)  |  ZARA CAMI (SIMILAR, SIMILAR)  |  ALMOST IDENTICAL NECKLACE  |  NORDSTROM SHORTS (ALMOST IDENTICAL)  |  IRO HEELS — OLD  |  BAG

And finally, this look is perfect for date night or heading out on the town.  The thin-knit sweater is a little sexy, a little covered and the silky shorts and a fun way to do shorts without being overly casual.

Hope you girls enjoyed this post, and found it helpful for stretching your wardrobe for this transitional time of year.  All of these outfits could easily be worn with booties when it gets a little bit colder, and I always like to keep a leather jacket in the back of my car to throw over top in the evening–which works for casual and more dressy looks as well.

Hope you girls have a great long weekend! xo
